Hyderabad, October 29: Telangana Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy met Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) Chairman Lalit Kumar Gupta in Mumbai. On this occasion, he brought to the attention of the chairman the difficulties faced by cotton farmers in the state. He said that untimely rains, cyclone impact, pink bollworm attacks, and increase in production costs have severely affected the farmers this season, and more than 45 lakh acres of cotton is being cultivated across the state. But he explained that adverse weather conditions have become a heavy burden on the farmers. Minister Komatireddy appealed to relax the moisture content of cotton and increase it from the current 12% to 14%. At the same time, he also suggested increasing the support price for cotton. He asked for a special relief package to be announced to provide compensation to the farmers.
He requested that the number of CCI purchase centers be increased in all districts to ensure that farmers can easily sell their cotton. He asked for setting up moisture testing centers at market yards and checking the exploitation of private traders. Similarly, he suggested providing assistance to farmers who have suffered losses due to pink bollworm attacks and strengthening the research and distribution systems for insect-resistant seeds. The Minister asked for the immediate release of the dues due to farmers in the last season.
CCI Chairman Lalit Kumar Gupta, who heard the plea of Minister Komatireddy, assured that the issues proposed would be thoroughly examined and appropriate action would be taken. Jadcharla MLA Anirudh Reddy also attended the meeting
