September 12, 2024 Member of Legislative Council (MLC), Manjunath Bhandary, has announced that the state cabinet has granted administrative approval for a Rs. 27 crore textile park project to be established in Karkala, Udupi district in Karnataka. He highlighted that this approval marks the beginning of turning a long-standing proposal into reality.
“The Government has officially endorsed the plan for a textile park in Karkala during a cabinet meeting,” Bhandary noted. “Despite the project being stalled for several years, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has shown interest and given his approval to move forward.”
The textile park will be developed through a public-private partnership model. Originally announced by former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa in 2020-21, and with the foundation stone laid by former Minister V Sunil Kumar in March 2023, the project is anticipated to create numerous job opportunities for local residents.
