KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 (Bernama) -- The textile and apparel industry is expected to see double-digit growth this year in line with the global economic recovery, says International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
The optimism was based on retailers' increasing confidence to pile up their stocks in anticipation of higher consumption, he said.
"This year is going to be a good year following increased exports from last year," he told a media briefing after chairing his ministry's annual dialogue with Textiles and Apparel Industry Associations.
Mustapa said his ministry was planning to develop a roadmap for the industry to ensure it remains competitive and has the edge to attract more investments.
He said his ministry would hold discussions with industry players in the next few weeks to prepare the latest profile on the industry, which has gone through many changes in the past four years.
