Tirupur: A special team constituted by Collector C. Samayamoorthy rescued two child workers from textile units here on Wednesday.
The team headed by Revenue Divisional Officer C. Chokkan and comprising officials from revenue department, Inspectorate of Factories and National Child Labour Project (NCLP) raided as many as 13 industrial and commercial units during the day.
NCLP project director D. Vijayakumar said that Kavithamani (13) and Deepika (13) were rescued from textile units located on P.N. Road.
“We will take up cases against the employers of these two children under the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986,” he said.
Three more children who were rescued from three other units and suspected to be child workers (ie. children below 14 years) would be sent for medical examination on Thursday to ascertain their age.
“They will be subjected to some radiology tests at District Headquarters hospital since we are unable to obtain age proof certificates for them,” Mr Vijayakumar said.
