Mettupalayam, Mar 08, 2010 : A massive fire broke out at a private spinning mill located on the badrakaliamman temple road. The mill produces towels and has been procuring the cotton and yarn for production from Andhra Pradesh and Maharastra. The night shift workers noticed a small smoke and informed the fire service personnel. The fire soon grew and destroyed the cotton and yarn that were stored adjacently in the godown premises. The fire service department has been assisted by a 50 member crew from Coimbatore North and South divisions under the leadership of Mr.Jayakanthan. It is also reported that building has developed cracks and glasspanes broken due to the intense heat. The loss estimated is about Rs.5 crores that includes only the cotton and yarn. The reason for the fire is not yet known and investigations are expected to commence once the fire is put out. One only hopes that there has been adequate insurance to cover this massive loss.
