Turkish clothing industry association forecast on Wednesday year-end ready-to-wear exports over 14 billion USD.
A Turkish clothing industry association forecast on Wednesday year-end ready-to-wear exports over 14 billion USD.
The head of the Turkish Clothing Manufacturers Association (TGSD) projected year-end ready-to-wear exports around 14 billion USD, and textile exports around 6 billion USD.
"Thus, our exports may be over 20 billion USD," chairman Cem Negrin told a press conference in the Turkish commercial hub of Istanbul.
Negrin said that textile exports were up 29 percent in February 2010 and reached 477.5 million USD.
The chairman said ready-to-wear exports rose to 1.1 billion USD with a 19.6 percent increase in February 2010.
"When we look at the global textile and ready-to-wear trade, we can see that the wind is blowing in favor of Turkey, and in the end, our exports have speeded up," Negrin said.
Negrin said Turkey should make best use of this opportunity, but Turkey was today experiencing lucky days.
"TGSD wishes to make use of this positive atmosphere and spread it all around the (textile and ready-to-wear) industry," Negrin said.
Turkey earned 5.5 billion USD from textile and raw material exports, and 13.2 billion from ready-to-wear exports in 2009.
Turkish Clothing Manufacturers Association (TGSD) has been founded in 1976 with the purpose of preparing the environment necessary for the development of clothing industry in Turkey, becoming a leader for the sector, promoting the sector abroad and achieving sectoral cooperation. Currently, TGSD has approximately 400 members, all of which are leaders in the Turkish apparel industry.
