Badal forms committee on taxes levied on cotton ginning mills

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal asked the Financial Commissioner Taxation, Financial Commissioner Development and Secretary Mandi Board to carry out a joint detailed study to make recommendations for slashing the tax liability on the cotton ginning mills in Punjab so as to safeguard the interests of these mills.

An assurance to this effect was given by Mr. Badal to a delegation of Punjab Cotton Factories & Ginner’s Association led by its president Bhagwan Bansal here in a meeting.

Responding to the demand to waive off the market fee and Punjab Infrastructure Development Cess on cotton, the Chief Minister assured the delegation to get these demands thoroughly examined by the joint committee before taking final decision in this regard. The Chief Minister also directed the Excise and Taxation department to keep a strict vigil over the illegal buying of cotton by the traders of Rajasthan from Punjab.

The Association thanked the Chief Minister for giving them an opportunity to place their demands before him and hoped of an early solution of these problems.

Prominent among those who were present in this meeting included Chief Secretary S C Aggarwal, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister D S Guru, Financial Commissioner Development N S Kang, Principal Secretary Industries S S Channy, Excise and Taxation Commissioner A Venu Prasad and Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Gaggandip Singh Brar.
