Rs.200 cr sanctioned for Marine Discharge Project

Coimbatore, Mar 2 (PTI) In view of allocation of Rs.200 crore by 13th Finance Commission for Marine Discharge Project, a permanent solution for effluent discharge of dyeing units in Tamil Nadu, Tirupur Exporters'Association today urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to sanction a matching amount towards the project.

TEA President, A Shaktivel, in a statement clarified that this allocation was different from the grant of rs.200 crore announced in the Budget 2010-11 towards the cost of installation of zero liquid discharge system at Tirupur.

The total project cost was estimated at Rs.800 crore and the balance amount of Rs.400 crore could be met by loan and contribution from user textile industry, Shaktivel said.
