APMTA wants minimum export price fixed for towels

.

KARACHI: All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has demanded to set up minimum export price for towels, as its export price is below the current export price set for cotton yarn.

As per SRO (I)/2010 dated 26th February 2010 the minimum export price for value-added yarns, which can be exported without any quota restriction has been placed at $3.5 per kg. Whereas on the other hand, the average export price of the towel sector as reported on the FBS website for months of October, November, December and January is $3 per kg, but these items are considered value additions and can be exported without any quantity restriction as well as are entitled to other benefits such as export refinance.

M Yasin Siddik, Chairman of APTMA (SB Region) asked on Monday why such unnecessary restriction and conditions were being imposed on the spinning sector. He said even though the minimum export price of $3.5 per kg has been imposed, yarn producing units were still required to go through a separate registration process and also capacity assessment process.

Siddik said the price of $3.5 per kg fixed by the textile ministry was a hard target to achieve for most qualities of yarn. He demanded that the minimum export price should be brought down to $2.7 per kg for it to become realistic. He said it was the demand of APTMA that the minimum export price for all categories of textile products should be enforced to end this discrimination.
