COIMBATORE: Workers of the National Textile Corporation (NTC) mills in the State will support the demand of the Entyce workers for higher wages by staging protests if the management failed to find a solution to the problem soon, according to the Joint Action Council of the Coimbatore and Erode District Textile Mill Workers Unions.
Strike
Secretary of the council M. Arumugam said workers of Entyce, the retail arm of NTC, were on strike for the last one month in the State demanding wage revision.
Officials of the NTC and the Textile Minister should intervene and help in arriving at a solution at the earliest, he said.
Amendments
The government should make necessary amendments to increase the provident fund deduction based on the wages of the workers as the Dearness Allowance has increased for the workers, he said.
The CITU Coimbatore District Committee has said the labour officials should interfere and find a solution to the Entyce workers’ problem at the earliest.
The Coimbatore District Textile Workers’ Union, affiliated to the HMS, has said in a release that the Employees Insurance Scheme was now available only for permanent and badli workers in textile units.
Temporary, casual, apprentice and contract workers should also be eligible for the scheme.
The Indian National Textile Workers’ Federation has welcomed the announcement by the Union Textile Minister that the Textile Policy would be reviewed.
The trade union president, P.L. Subbiah, said in a release that the trade unions should be included in the discussions regarding the policy.
