The W.P.I. Index based rate of inflation for the week ending
31.01.2009 has been provisionally estimated at 4.39% as against the previous week?s
level of 5.07%.
The textiles group has an overall weight of 9.8% in the WPI Index
and hence it is an important group in measuring inflation. The index for 'Textiles'
group declined by 0.78 percent to 140.0 (Provisional) from 141.1 (Provisional)
for the previous week due to lower prices of polyster
yarn (11%), dhoties, sarees
& voils (6%), cotton yarn-cones, cotton yarn-hanks,
nylon filament yarn and raw cotton (1% each). However, the prices of cotton grey
drills & jeans (3%), cotton grey cloth (others) (2%) and viscose filament
yarn (1%) moved up. The annual inflation in respect of the textile group
of items was 9.55% as compared to 4.39% for all commodities for the week ending
31.01.2009. The weekly inflation of the textile group
decreased by 0.78 per cent for the week ending 31.01.2009 as compared to decreased
